Jamie R. Tasker is an Associate attorney with Alvarez, Winthrop, Thompson, & Smoak, P.A. His practice is focused on general insurance defense, including automobile negligence, catastrophic injuries, wrongful death, and premises liability.
Mr. Tasker attended Florida State University where he obtained a B.S. in Political Science (2010), a M.S. in International Relations and Economics (2013), and his Juris Doctorate (2017). While in law school, Mr. Tasker achieved the highest grade in 5 different courses, attended FSU’s study abroad program at Oxford University, and hiked 500 miles across northern Spain, all while completing law school in 2 years with Honors. After finishing law school in May of 2017, Mr. Tasker spent the next 2 months preparing to take the bar exam while also clerking fulltime for the Honorable Judge Ross Bilbrey at the First District Court of Appeals.
Mr. Tasker began his career as a prosecutor in Hillsborough County where he handled hundreds of cases at any given time through all stages, including several jury and non-jury trials.
Subsequently, he spent the next several years handling insurance defense matters at a well-respected statewide defense firm, including automobile negligence, premises liability, and general insurance litigation.
Mr. Tasker continued his career handling personal injury matters on behalf of plaintiffs for the largest personal injury plaintiffs’ firm in the country before ultimately joining Alvarez, Winthrop, Thompson, & Smoak, P.A. and getting back to his defense roots. His experience on both sides of a personal injury case provides a unique and invaluable perspective as he continues to serve the firm’s clients.
Mr. Tasker is originally from North Florida but has spent his entire legal career in the Tampa Bay area.
In his free time, Mr. Tasker enjoys running, hiking, and most things outdoors. He has hiked the famous 500-mile Camino de Santiago across Spain twice and the West Highland Way in Scotland.
Prior to law school, Mr. Tasker served in Florida and Georgia National Guard units as an armor officer. Mr. Tasker is also a board member for Hopes Uganda, a non-profit organization in Mbale, Uganda, which provides food, shelter, and education for orphaned or disenfranchised children.
