Overview And Experience

One of the founders of Alvarez, Winthrop, Thompson & Smoak, P.A. Griff strives to provide a strong offense to secure the best possible results for his clients. He approaches every case as if it will go to trial, finding that early trial oriented preparation actually helps to manage costs and enhance the likelihood of the best result for the client, even when a case ultimately settles out-of-court. Griff also handles appeals for his clients, having argued before almost every District Court of Appeal in Florida, the Florida Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals, 11th Circuit, and the Georgia Court of Appeals. He knows what he needs to do before, during and after trial to make sure he keeps the best results for his clients.

Although he grew up on a small farm outside of Jacksonville, Florida, Griff is a civil trial attorney who is licensed and has practiced in state and federal court, both in Florida and Georgia. Griff focuses his practice on representing clients in lawsuits with issues involving negligence, personal injury, wrongful death, products liability, automobile and commercial carrier negligence, employment litigation and premises liability. Companies in a number of industries routinely turn to Griff when they need strong representation in contentious legal matters. He has over 20 years of experience working with employers, health care providers, product manufacturers, property owners, amusement parks, insurance companies and commercial transportation companies, including automobile dealerships, trucking companies, and bus lines.

Griff credits his courtroom success to his experience as a U.S. Marine officer, saying, “You can’t be afraid of losing when you take on a case. Marines aren’t afraid of anything and simply don’t consider losing to be an option.”

Following his international service as a Marine, Griff earned his Juris Doctor, with Honors, from the University of Florida, College of Law. He has spent his entire legal career as a civil litigator and trial lawyer, having tried cases in courtrooms throughout Florida and Georgia.
